ICR offers drug discovery database, researchers, Mai new treatment for mesothelioma patients speed

The Institute of cancer research (ICR), Europe's leading cancer research, has "a powerful new cancer drug discovery database" to accelerate to bring the process of drugs from "Bank to bed."  The database known as 'CanSAR' contains all biological, chemical, pharmacological and finally clinical data to support drug discovery genes and proteins for any cancer scientists.  Researcher in the biomarker (the search for a certain biological trait) your quest of this tool as you effective detection method, treatment or cure for mesothelioma and other cancers continue to benefit.

Ongoing research is conducted to a cure or new treatment options for mesothelioma, an incurable to find asbestos-induced pulmonary cancer.  Mesothelioma is an aggressive cancer that renders many of standard cancer treatments ineffective.  Early detection of Mesothelioma has been shown, a patients survive positive influence by boost treatment options and improving their quality of life in the fight against cancer; There are currently no reliable mesothelioma screening procedures.

E.g. CanSAR, the researcher provides tools, a place to go and browse quickly large amounts of data is crucial for getting discoveries in the hands of oncologists and their patients.  CanSAR can survive a Mesothelioma patients affecting positive for example, by offering researchers access to information on the entire Human Proteome, 700,000 compounds, 4,000 molecular targets, more than eight million data points and information about more than 1,000 cancer cells lines at the click of a button.

By researchers to searches you can perform in minutes as opposed to weeks faster and more efficient new drugs offer treatment for mesothelioma.   Dr Lesley Walker, Cancer Research UK's Director of cancer information, said: "I hope this [CanSAR] will help the pace at which discoveries involving the nuts and bolts of cancer to be translated can accelerate in effective new drugs in the clinic."

Professor Paul workman, Director of the Cancer Research UK Cancer Therapeutics unit at the ICR added "Patients will benefit because researchers able to move faster from the basic research discovery in new medicines in the clinic."

CanSAR available is a free tool for Internet users.

Achievement of from a Mesothelioma patients during this holiday season

In this age of e-Mail SMS, Facebook and Twitter, many people miss the personal touch of your friends and loved ones - especially mesothelioma and other cancer patients, not in a position, as much as before their illness out.  While the feelings of sadness, loneliness and fear of an uncertain future for mesothelioma patients are the holiday season and often accented left their families depressed and overwhelmed.

If you suffer a friend or a loved one from a serious illness who should consider providing, send a card hand written time handle a homemade or simply stop by for a short visit to let you know, think of you to use.  If you would like to give you a gift but are uncertain as to what may be appropriate here for ideas of gifts for mesothelioma patients.

Mesothelioma is a rare, Ernst cancer caused by asbestos affects close to 3,000 Americans each year.  Mesothelioma is often aggressive with surgery, chemotherapy and radiation and support from family and friends is for patients of crucial importance, complications and treatment, with the disease to come.

While many factors determine the survive for a Mesothelioma patients like e.g. treatment plan and general health and fitness of the patients, doctors also believe that reinforce a positive mood and thoughts will improve the health of the patient.  So your friend offers some words of encouragement while holidays can trigger the mood of patients, reduce the anxiety level, and help you feel emotionally better.

Keep the patient in mind guardian by offering to run errands, shopping or the next meal you cook to do.   It is important for caregivers to help, their love to be emotionally stable a cope with the challenges of mesothelioma.

Nurse navigators offer consulting and support for mesothelioma patients

By Nancy Meredith

Mesothelioma, a rare asbestos-related cancer usually affect the lining of the lungs, is resistant to many standard cancer treatments so it to handle difficult disease.  Depending on the level of mesothelioma, the medical team determines the best treatment plan for patients.  Many times a multimodal Protocol is developed, where the patient is exposed to surgery, chemotherapy and radiation.  Anyone who has been diagnosed with mesothelioma and faces such a treatment plan knows how to deal with the numerous medical issues is overwhelming.

While friends and family can provide help and guidance, the challenge of managing a mesothelioma diagnosis can patients and his family unaware or next steps confused leave.  Keep track of all the doctors visits, tests, treatments, medical bills and insurance concerns feels like a full time job too many patients.  To ensure that the patient at the right time will receive the proper care to the patient support in dealing with his health some hospitals now offer relief in the form of support from an Oncology nurse Navigator.

Nurse Navigator position defined
A relatively new position, a nurse Navigator is a crucial member of the patients medical team and remains with the cancer patients from start to finish, while direct plan it and it to help manage decisions concerning his treatment plan.  The national coalition of Oncology nurse Navigator (NCONN), a professional organization that supports the Oncology nurse Navigator believes nurse navigators are changing the face of cancer care "by lobbying for and ongoing advice and support for cancer patients, their families and significant others."

In August, NCONN published the following formal definition for an Oncology nurse Navigator:

«The Oncology nurse Navigator is a professional whose clinical nursing expertise patients, families and their caregivers informed decision-making;» «results» in cooperation with a multidisciplinary team to timely cancer screening, diagnosis, to provide treatment and increased supportive care about the cancer continuum.

Navigators pull together the information
Laurie Lloyd, a nurse Navigator in Baptist Health Medical Center-little rock, said to especially an advocate and liaison for "your patients, sometimes I am like a cheerleader, the patient through the next phase to help" and concerns in an interview that, while you is listening.  Lloyd said that, while any doctor meets his part, the patient can be left with together fragmented information, and that's where a nurse Navigator comes the Navigator is focused on the patient as a whole.

Nurse navigators are aware of the unique needs of patients and can with other patients that match looking for someone in a similar situation.  With the rare and complexity of mesothelioma, seeking support from other mesothelioma patients can be considerable.

Facts and statistics, the highlight of mesothelioma and the risks of asbestos exposure

Mesothelioma is one of many cancers still incurable, and the tragedy is that mesothelioma is a totally preventable disease.  Related to exposure to asbestos, mesothelioma is a cancer of the lining of the lungs, chest or abdomen, which is very aggressive and is resistant against many standard cancer treatments.  Even small amounts of asbestos and rare exposure can create a risk for contracting mesothelioma and other asbestos-related diseases.

The World Health Organization estimates that asbestos causes about half of all deaths from occupational cancer and 125 million people worldwide are exposed to asbestos at work.  Mesothelioma has a longer waiting period and strikes from 30 to 50 years after exposure to asbestos. Such as insulators, plumbers and Pipefitters, electricians, sheet metal workers, auto mechanics, refinery and factory worker and shipyard workers were the most at risk for mesothelioma trade.

Mesothelioma is close to 3,000 Americans diagnosed each year, and the need for a cure and viable treatment is so important to find that only designated a federal resolution national mesothelioma awareness day in the United States each year on September 26, was passed to be observed from 2011.

The Centers for disease control and prevention released "malignant mesothelioma mortality - USA, 1999 - 2005? in 2009 and provide the following statistics and information:"

18,068 Americans died of malignant mesothelioma between 1999 and 2005. 14,591 Deaths occurred in men.The State mortality was greater than the national rate of excise duty 13.8 per million people per year in 26 States. was 20 per million per year in six States: Maine (173 deaths;) Price: 27.5), Wyoming (50; 22.2), West Virginia (182; 21.0), Pennsylvania (1.210; 20.8), New Jersey (814; 20.2) and Washington (558; 20.1) .Although asbestos is not more in the United States dismantled, the mineral is still imported and a substantial amount of asbestos in buildings finally removed remaining, either during the renovation or demolition.Currently, an estimated 1.3 million construction and general industry workers potentially are exposed to asbestos.

The CDC further specifies that the analysis shows that the annual number of mesothelioma deaths continues to rise, and future cases continue the extensive past use of asbestos to reflect.  The CDC fears that asbestos during the renovation and demolition of existing asbestos in buildings could lead new cases of mesothelioma by professional and environmental threats, if insufficient controls on the protection of workers and the surrounding community.

The CDC believes that capture operational history information for mesothelioma cases important industries and professions, the by workers to identify risk of this deadly disease.

Patient protection and affordable health care Act will facilitate financial impact of a mesothelioma diagnosis.

by Nancy Meredith

Exposure to asbestos is the direct cause of several diseases including lung, mesothelioma and asbestosis cancer - mesothelioma, perhaps the most tragic.  Mesothelioma is a rare and incurable cancer that occurs in the thin layer of tissue that covers most of the internal organs of the body, the mesothelium.  The unfortunate aspect with mesothelioma diagnosed is that it was a totally preventable disease.

Most cases of mesothelioma affect people who asbestos at work, such as insulators, plumbers and Pipefitters, electricians, sheet metal workers, car mechanic, refinery and factory workers and shipyard workers. Many of the companies, the worker asbestos, were aware of the dangers of asbestos but not the employees of the risks to warn you or protect their workers. Enhanced latency of 30-50 years many workers exposed to asbestos recently diagnosed with mesothelioma and are forced to bear the financial burden that comes with the diagnosis.

Help for health care costs cover nets
Managing the health costs for mesothelioma is one of the main concerns of mesothelioma patients.  Some patients are forced to treatments early due to their inability, afford to stop further care.  Other liabilities to build, until you are links, questions itself, the invoices will cover as you.

Medical bills are responsible for near 60 percent of personal bankruptcy in the United States - 75 percent of the people, the health insurance according to a study conducted by Harvard Medical School.

An article in autumn 2010 cure magazine, says however, relief on the road with patient safety and affordable health care Act, more commonly known as health care reform.  Healing says "health care reform is to influence almost all people with cancer and some will be deeply affected as you are spared from financial ruin on the basis of their treatment."

Changes in insurance coverage
The plot focuses on insurance reform, including removing medical policies which prevents diagnosed many people especially cancer qualify for health insurance.  There is also a provision that, to buy their own coverage will allow sick patients.

Another critical provision is in supporting clinical studies. For people diagnosed with mesothelioma clinical trials can provide potentially more effective therapies get the best available treatment and the possibility of new.  The clinical trial coverage offered by insurance companies strongly varies with some not all costs cover other about the trial version but not the cost of managing side effects.  Starting in 2014, insurers must cover associated with the cost of care studies.

While many health advocates say, addressing the rising cost of medical care is still critical to help health care reform a long is individual expenses reduce one.

National mesothelioma awareness day resolution passes House

H. Res. 771, “Supporting the goals and ideals of a National Mesothelioma Awareness Day,” has unanimously passed the House officially designating September 26th as National Mesothelioma Awareness Day.  The resolution, introduced by Congresswoman Betty McCollum (MN-4) in September last year, is at the end of the legislative process for simple resolutions and the resolution now takes effect.  The corresponding Senate resolution, S. Res. 288, introduced by Senator Patty Murray (WA), passed in 2009.

When McCollum and Murray introduced the resolutions they noted that ‘National Mesothelioma Awareness Day’ is a chance to raise awareness of the disease and to support the victims and their families. Their goal is for the national day to educate the nation about the causes of mesothelioma and the deadly effects of asbestos.

Asbestos is a known carcinogen and is proven to cause mesothelioma, a serious cancer resulting from breathing in the asbestos fibers that then become lodged in the thin membrane that lines and encases the lungs.  Often called “asbestos cancer,” mesothelioma is highly aggressive and is resistant to many standard cancer treatments.  Close to 3,000 Americans are diagnosed with the disease each year.

Some of the sections of note in the resolution include:

Whereas there is no known safe level of exposure to asbestos;Whereas for decades, the need to develop treatments for mesothelioma was overlooked and today, even the best available treatments usually have only a very limited effect and the expected survival time of those diagnosed with the disease is between 8 and 14 months;Whereas the National Cancer Institute recognizes a clear need for new agents to improve the outlook for patients with mesothelioma and other asbestos-related diseases;Whereas millions of workers in the United States have been, and continue to be, exposed to dangerous levels of asbestos;Whereas it is believed that many of the firefighters,  police officers, and rescue workers from Ground Zero on September 11, 2001, may be at increased risk of contracting mesothelioma in the future

The next step, as listed in the resolution, is for the “President to issue a proclamation calling on the people of the United States, Federal departments and agencies, States, localities, organizations, and media to annually observe a National Mesothelioma Awareness day with appropriate ceremonies and activities.”

Tumor grade and surgery have greatest impact on mesothelioma survival

An article 5 published journal of Thoracic Oncology, in November, 2010, researchers at the Medical Center University of Rochester, reported that patients with malignant pleural mesothelioma, tumor grade and directed by cancer operation overall survival have the greatest impact on your.  Researchers found further that women, younger patients (age was not specified) and those with Epithelioid mesothelioma the best prognosis type. Epithelioid mesothelioma is the most common and treatable histological subtype of mesothelioma.

Mesothelioma is a serious cancer that exposed occurs in individuals, the airborne asbestos fibres.  The disease is very aggressive and is resistant to many standard cancer treatments so that there is a difficult disease to treat effectively.   Many factors set, while the average survival time usually from 4 – 18 months after diagnosis of mesothelioma varies, the life expectancy. Factors that are identified to plan if the patient has ever smoked type and level of mesothelioma treatment previously, lifestyle, nutrition and fitness level of the patients, as well as age, gender and family traits.

Researchers analyzed total 9,701 patients with malignant pleural mesothelioma diagnosed from 1973 to 2006, with the aim of which survive General and influence variables to characterize survival in patients with pleural mesothelioma.  The survival rate for 6 months, 1 year to 5 years that review results found that survive 55, 33 and 5%, or was.

The "negative prognostic factors" contain age males, higher tumor grade, nonepithelioid histology, higher level, no directed by cancer surgery and no radiation therapy.  This is the need for better screening methods for mesothelioma, finding how positively a patient treatments survive early detection by increasing and improving quality of life in the fight against cancer can affect.

The Department of radiation oncology at the James p. Wilmot Cancer Center of the University of Rochester is recognized nationally as one of the leading institutions in radiation technology, treatment and research in radiation and cancer biology.  Their mission "is" to cure cancer, while always with the aim of the quality of life, these objectives promote exercising the science of cancer therapy through clinical and basic research ahead and young oncologists to improve if possible.

Researchers target glucose as latest strategy to fight cancer mesothelioma and lung cancer

According to friends of cancer latest research strategy in the fight against cancer in attack on cancer fuel source is.  In the past, researchers had to disturb "genetic signals that work like access keys", which lead to tumors grow and metastasize.  However, researchers believe that now by cutting their energy supply of glucose, and "render all access keys ineffective," the cancer cells die.  Search for new strategies for treatment and cure of cancer is important for many cancer patients, especially for mesothelioma patients where the cancer proved, that are therapy refraktär against chemotherapy, has many of the current processes insufficient to render.

Although current research is carried out to find a cure for mesothelioma, it is still as a terminal illness in the medical community. Mesothelioma is a rare form of cancer, which typically affect the lining of the lungs. Especially caused by exposure to airborne asbestos mesothelioma can be treated with surgery, chemotherapy and radiation but once the disease has reached an average survival of advanced, is often less than one year.

Agios pharmaceuticals is one of the first companies to pursue cancer metabolism.  The company received only $488,000 from qualifying therapeutic discovery support project (QTDP) program, the Agios efforts to the development of novel cancer therapies metabolism. (These grants are distributed as part of patient safety and affordable care Act 2010.)

The interest in this research approach was partly fuelled by the recent discovery of the interplay between cancer and diabetes.  The diabetic medication metformin has recently found was the growth of cancer cells to slow lung, mesothelioma and growth and can suppress.

Cornerstone of pharmaceuticals, Inc., awarded a grant from the QTDP program is the use means, to develop medicines, the focus on the different metabolism of cancer cells.  Cornerstone explains the cancer metabolism process, say "so, as the body needs to survive nutrients, cancer cells of certain nutrients, to make energy and increase depend."

Both companies agree that cancer cell metabolism is an exciting and promising area for the development of drugs for the treatment of cancer.  Cornerstone says that although it is known close to 100 years, cancer cells have a unique metabolism, "recently, it has a wide and this unique metabolic difference significant renewal of scientific interest focused on research to facilitate the discovery and development of breakthrough treatments."

Chief Executive of Agios pharmaceuticals, David Schenkein, adds that in research "Nutrient supply and deprivation is the next big wave always potential."

ESMO Awards Fellowship to oncologist focused on mesothelioma research

The European society for medical oncology (ESMO) announced their fellowship award recipients at the ESMO Congress took place in October in Milan.  ESMO awarded seven translational fellowships and two clinical research grants. One of the recipients which becomes fellow, Dr. Guilia Pasello translational concentrate their research on the "discovery of novel molecular targets and biological agents for malignant pleural mesothelioma chemotherapy."

Mesothelioma, a rare form of cancer primarily through exposure to airborne asbestos fibres, commonly affecting the lining of the lungs, causing very aggressive and resistant against many standard cancer treatments. There are currently no known cure for mesothelioma.  Through continuous research, hope doctors and scientists to explore new approaches to treating disease procedures to identify the disease at an early stage and found to develop a cure.

Translational research is often called aspect of scientific discovery of the "Bank to bed". This is where the findings are translated into practical applications. Scientists begin the process to "the Bank" basic research such as offer disease at the molecular level and then the tools to study, to clinicians, innovation at the clinical level or at the patient's bed.   ESMO translationale research grants to provide training in translational research in a European Center with an international reputation in the field.  The Translational fellowship program lasts up to 2 years.

Pasello is a researcher in the Department of medical oncology Istituto Oncologico Veneto, where your research in lung cancer and mesothelioma focused clinical trials currently.  It was by a doctor in 2005 and spent her first year of postgraduate training at the Institute for oncological and surgical Sciences, Oncology section at the Istituto Oncologico Veneto IRCSS, Padua.

Pasello is co-author of numerous studies including "molecular targets in malignant pleural mesothelioma treatment," "second and third line treatment for advanced non-small cell lung cancer," and "induction senescence marker after neo adjuvant chemotherapy malignant pleural mesothelioma and link to clinical outcome: an exploratory analysis."  One of your studies confirmed the safety and efficacy of AVASTIN as chemotherapy for lung cancer and potentially for mesothelioma.

ESMO is the leading European professional organization promoting specialty of medical oncology and promote a multidisciplinary approach committed to cancer treatment and care.  Through their comprehensive fellowship program young oncologists are given the opportunity, "gain valuable research experience and skills and have the opportunity to disseminate information in their home countries."

Debate on vitamin E derivative as effective anti mesothelioma drug

Some researchers believe that a form of vitamin E in inducing apoptosis or cell death and suppressing of malignant mesothelioma cancer growth can be effective.  In various studies within the last 5 years found researchers that alpha Tocepherol, the most common form of vitamin D in the body as managed as a supplement, is effective in combating the treatment-resistant breast cancer tumors and could be effective in combating mesothelioma.

Mesothelioma is a serious and rare cancer in individuals who have either inhalation or ingestion of asbestos fibres.  Often called "Asbestos cancer", mesothelioma is very aggressive and resistant against many standard cancer treatments.  There are currently no known cure for mesothelioma and the average survival varies between 4 – 18 months after diagnosis.

In an effort to live longer and improve their quality of life turn many mesothelioma patients in alternative treatments and vitamins.  Vitamin E is known for its antioxidant properties and for the protection of skin cells from ultraviolet light, pollution, drugs and other items that damaging free radicals in cells.  Vitamin E has contribute to a healthy heart-blood circulation system and shown in blood clotting and wound healing aid.

Researchers in Italy and Australia in the International Journal of cancer, that alpha tocopheryl succinate analog reported vitamin E "effectively kills malignant mesothelioma cells and sensitized to the immunological inductor of apoptosis tumor necrosis factor."

In another study, published in 2005 researchers from the apoptosis research group at Griffith University, Australia, found that alpha tocopheryl suppressed mesothelioma in "Immunocomprised mice", suggesting that this vitamin could be used "as a selective drug against previously fatal mesothelioma" (Note: some of the researchers identified in both studies.)

A follow-up study, a few years later contradicted the findings.  The researchers found, "alpha tocopheryl succinate was tumor established in inhibiting development published doses not only ineffective, but led to serious side effects, shaped behavior changes, intra peritoneal abnormalities and destroy the T cells."

All studies suggested additional tests of vitamin E analogues in use as a treatment for mesothelioma.
